The beauty of failure is the results it produces many great men/women in history have used failure to fuel their fire. I can go on forever naming people, their adversities, and how they have triumphed you should know some of your own too. Keep them in your MTFU bank to withdraw when needed. Remember to keep depositing these stories and histories daily. The video shows a great triumph of will and most importantly confidence without hesitation. Imagine the leg up you have with someone telling you, “you can do it”. This girl only had her inner thoughts, which said, “GET UP YOU SON OF A BITCH!”.
SO MTFU TODAY GET UP AND KEEP GRINDING.
Why is CrossFit so popular? This and a few other pressing questions I will attempt to answer with my opinion. The beauty of MY opinion is it is MINE. If you don’t like it that is fine.
So why is CrossFit so popular? This can be attributed to a plethora of different things. I will discuss my top 3.
Number 1 reason is the community, CrossFit is made up of every facet of society, thus bringing people under one umbrella uniting them worldwide in a manner never heard of before, Intense Exercise.
CrossFit is made up of ordinary joes and janes that can go to their Box and compete daily with themselves and others within the gym or around the world. The last picture above is of the lovely Camille doing a heavy overhead squats. Everyone in the audience in front of her knows how much time and effort went into her training to allow her to achieve such a feat. Imagine all the stadiums filled with Football fans thinking they know what goes into becoming a professional. How many times have you yelled at the TV telling the pros to do it your way. Well CrossFit allows you to get into the ring and compete with elite athletes. Try strapping on a helmet and running the ball in the NFL. If people weren’t so afraid of a lawsuit it would be a fun experiment to witness. The armchair QB would think twice about criticizing the performance of the professional.
CrossFit has a community of people that have felt the pain of a devastating WOD, the mental game of ping pong that is played between the pussy, boo who, poor me side of your brain and the side that says fuck it keep going, Man The Fuck Up. That is the thing that gives you a real connection to the person next to you and the one you watch on TV competing with the fittest in the world.
Why would someone pay that much money to go to a gym?
I would never pay that much to join a gym! I would on the other hand pay for a coach who cares about my progress (physically, mentally and spiritually) to be apart of a small community within a global network that is dedicated to health and fitness, and I also would not mind paying dues to be apart of a team that lets anyone play and cheers on the person in last place.
These are the same people that would go see a Lakers game for an average ticket price of around $95. As well as to pay for parking, over priced shitty food and drinks to watch a two hour game.
Why do all CrossFitters only talk about CrossFit?
Simple it is like playing the state championship game everyday you train, and winning it. Of course you want to tell people about it.
Why are there so many people against CrossFit?
Most of the people I know who are against it have good reasons. They have read the horror stories of shitty affiliates programming stupid WODs and treating technical movements lightly.
These people often here the bad and pass judgement before looking at the other side. There are so many great affiliates out there that are constantly trying to get better and truly care about their people.
My favorite aspect of CrossFit is the free market system that is in place. There are so many affiliates opening up that most people think we should be worried. I am not worried because we strive to get better at being an affiliate everyday and mediocrity is not acceptable for my clients and certainly not for my business. If a new affiliate takes all of our clients it’s because we suck!

I recently had a tragic loss in my family, my grandmother passed away at the age of 86 last week. While you may say that she lived a long life, you would be judging that off of what you may interpret as a long life. Here is a link to the newspaper write up about her and the picture above is the park that is named after her.
Well if you accomplish a fraction of what this woman has in 86 years people will look back at you and remember your accomplishments. I think about my Nonna, and how she was always keeping busy doing something. Cooking, cleaning her house, canning sauce, tending to her garden, mowing her lawn, yes she did all of this up until the age 80, as well as working full time until 83. This is really just the tip of the iceberg. She would cook and bring food to the old folks home. I know imagine an 80 year old bringing food to an old folks home.
She was a vault of old world proverbs and knowledge. These sayings sound crazy when you are a kid. As a 31 year old adult these sayings ring in my head all day and hold so much truth. Here are some examples some of the ones that you may have heard but need to hear again. ”A bird in hand is better then 2 in the bush”, “The proof is in the pudding”, one of my most hated as a kid was “whistle while you work”. This is really just a couple off the top of my head as I could have you reading proverbs for hours.
The point is keep moving forward.
My philosophy is, “if you are not moving forward your moving backward.” Let me explain. Imagine yourself floating a foot above earth. You have to move forward in order to keep up with everyone and everything around you. If you stop moving forward the world keeps spinning without you.
Get something done everyday, you will feel better knowing that something got done. Never waste an opportunity to get a task done. She wouldn’t say MTFU she would just do it everyday!
Doing it just to do it!
That seems to be the theme our world follows, the herd is always into the next best thing. Right now CrossFit seems to the next best thing for people trying to get into great shape. Is it the next best thing or will it stand the test of time. For those in the industry, we all know that there is nothing better than being Consistent!!!
That is the one thing that sets CrossFit apart from most of the other fads out there is the community that makes CrossFit what it is forces people to be more consistent! If you have a group of people like minded that support you and cheer you on it is very easy to stay consistent.
If you are on the fringe and want to change your life start being consistent in everything you do… Make things into habits… Replace bad ones with good ones… Set goals long term, short term, intermediate all of the above… Tell a friend, tell the world, MTFU and stick to it..
No excuses be one of the 1 percenters the outlaws, of the world that people envy and wish to be..
"Laugh, not Lament!" My quote of the day it spurs from what we have on our wall. A quote without an author that has stood the test of time.
"Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional."
This quote speaks to the self talk we experience during our lives, this talk if worked on can be controlled and used to your advantage if left to its own device it will hurt your efforts.
So laughing at this pain showing this intangible force that you will not let it control your actions is the most important thing you can do before, during and after your workout.
Our WOD today was Kalsu, it is 100 thrusters (135/95) with every minute on the minute 5 burpees. It is in my opinion one of the most mentally draining WODs. I have the pleasure of trying to help people through their mental breaking point during this WOD, I see the potential of growth during these times as the most potent. When you shut down that inner voice that is trying to have you quit, and rise above it beating it this is the most empowering feeling one can achieve.
Give it a shot, it can be done almost anywhere. Do something today that makes you feel uncomfortable, and when that inner voice pops into your head and try’s to talk you into taking it easy or worse quitting. Laugh at the discomfort, the pain, show your inner voice that you are in control and can conquer anything.
What’s your championship?
Victory is defined as achievement of mastery or success in a struggle or endeavor against odds or difficulties.
So let’s use this word more! Every small struggle, endeavor, beating the odds, or dealing with difficult situations, is a VICTORY. Take this into consideration and give yourself a pat on the back for it quietly.
Notice the word quietly and apply it here. No one wants to here that you didn’t eat the donuts at the office today, yay me! These are victories that you should celebrate internally.
All of these small victories add up to a great triumph! A strong foundation of victories must be laid down first if you are ever going to achieve your big triumph.
Think of world war 2, the ultimate goal in the European theater was to have Germany surrender right? Would that have ever happened if we had not landed on the beaches of Normandy? How about the Giants winning the Superbowl last year, would that had happened without them attending training camp in the spring? The foundation of victory’s had been laid, followed by the ultimate triumph.
Instant gratification or long term satisfaction you make the choice daily to MTFU or not.
You get the idea, live every day in victory and you will achieve total triumph!

My point today will be a short and concise one. It should either resonate because you are searching for inspiration and want more for your life.. Or it will not because you are a victim and let uncontrollable circumstances control “YOUR” life..
Today’s point is chasing perfection and catching excellence! Simple right, let me break it down for you.
That means trying to give 100% effort, this perfect number will never be achievable and that is okay. If you are chasing it you will no doubt catch and excellence. Is a 95% excellent? I think so!
So what is your goal?
Without a clear goal that is measurable and achievable within a certain time frame, you might as well be sleeping all day.
Today’s workout was a simple one but a lot of reps, when viewed as a whole this WOD seemed like it would take a long time to do.. In fact if my morning people would have focused on little steps and time frames then their overall time would’ve been better.
100 overhead squats with a barbell for time (greasing the groove finisher WOD) most times were well over 5 minutes… Let’s look at it a different way every minute on the minute 20 Over head squats then its only 5 minutes and done! Or even a smaller steps 10 sets of 10 overhead squats with 20 secs rest between each set..
The 6p’s apply to everything even, WOD’s, Strength training, and of course life.
So what is your plan today? Will you stick to it?
